Raja Ampat which literally means ‚ The Four Kings‚ is located on Papua, specifically off the north-western tip of Bird‚ Head Peninsula. The archipelago consists of more than 1,500 small islands, shoal, and cay that surround this four main islands, namely Batanta, Waigeo, Misool, and Salawati. How To Get To Raja Ampat:
It‚ very easy and simple to get to Raja Ampat. First, you need to take a flight from Makassar or Jakarta to Sorong. There are several small aircraft that can take you to the district capital of Raja Ampat, which is Waisai. Alternatively, you can decide to take a ferry from the Sorong port to the islands.
The Marinda Airport that is found in Waisai-the town capital of Raja Ampat Regency serves flights to and from the Sorong city, Wing Air flights serve flights between Raja Ampat and Sorong, and Susi Air flights twice a week, i.e., on Saturday and Monday. Please note that Marinda Airport is under expansion and maintenance. It’s also located a bit far from any of its facilities. Hence, remember to carry some drinks and snacks while you wait for your return flight to Sorong.
On the hand, You will find ferries that can easily get you from Sorong to Waisai and vice versa. A trip on a ferry takes about 2 to 3 hours.
As a major hub of Raja Ampat, Domine Eduard Osok Airport is located in Sorong, and it serves flights to and from several cities in Indonesia and Papua. Some of these cities include Makassar, Manokwari, Jakarta Manado, Ambon, and Jayapura,
Garuda Indonesia Air operates daily flights to and from Jakarta and Sorong as well as Sriwijaya Air and Nam Air. However, Batik Air flies two times between Jakarta and Sorong a day.
